Washington County blame inflation, mandates for possible property tax increase

Washington County leaders are weighing a property tax levy increase that could raise the average household tax bill by a little more than $60 a year.

While the process is still in the early stages, for 22-year Woodbury resident Patrick Farrell, the proposed 7.9% Washington County property tax increase was not welcome news.

“I’m actually looking to get out, I’m actually going to get out of Minnesota and move to Wisconsin,” Farrell said.

Washington County Commission Chair Karla Bigham said the increase would largely go toward rising costs for goods and services, inflation and planned capital investments in county facilities and infrastructure. However, she said county leaders will look for ways to trim costs in the coming months.
