Carson Wentz finished 12 of 19 for 133 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings' comeback victory over Green Bay.
EAGAN, Minn. — Carson Wentz will get his first start of the season after the Minnesota Vikings ruled Kyler Murray out for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.
Murray left in the first quarter after taking a hit to his head while scrambling on third down. Murray was going to the ground when Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness and safety Javon Bullard went for the tackle and struck Murray in the head. Bullard was flagged for unnecessary roughness, and Murray was ruled out for the game shortly after with a concussion. Wentz entered the game and led the Vikings to a 39-22 comeback victory.
The Vikings (1-0) also ruled out receiver Jauan Jennings, who missed practice this week because of a personal issue. Right tackle Brian O'Neill, who returned to practice Friday after sitting out Thursday, is listed as questionable.
Wentz, who didn't spend much time with the first-team offense during training camp, took some time to get momentum in the offense against Green Bay, but he finished 12 of 19 for 133 yards and three touchdowns. The 33-year-old veteran started five games for the Vikings last season and threw for 1,216 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said J.J. McCarthy will be the backup.
The Vikings are on the road Sunday against Chicago, which cruised to a 59-37 win over Carolina in Week 1.
