Vance Boelter already pleaded guilty in federal court to murdering former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. This trial will be for the state charges against him.

A judge has delayed the trial for the state's murder case against Vance Boelter until next year.

Boelter initially demanded a speedy trial, but his attorneys argued they couldn't review all the evidence in the case by his Nov. 2 trial date. His trial is now scheduled to begin on May 10, 2027.

Boelter is facing state charges after already pleading guilty in federal court to murdering former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and killing their dog Gilbert on June 14, 2025.
