Jeff Hoffman, 33, is a hard-throwing right-hander with a 3.94 ERA in 51 appearances this season.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins added another arm to their bullpen Monday just ahead of the trade deadline in an effort to jumpstart one of the league's worst bullpens.
The Twins traded three prospects to acquire Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jeff Hoffman.
Hoffman, 33, is a hard-throwing right-hander with a 3.94 ERA in 51 appearances this season. The 2024 All-Star also has 75 strikeouts over 48 innings, and hasn't allowed an earned run in nearly a month.
As part of the trade, the Twins will send pitchers Dasan Hill and John Klein, and infielder Dameury Pena to Toronto.
Minnesota (56-57) is just one game back of the third American League wild-card spot, and four games out of first place in the American League Central. According to InsidethePen, the Twins' bullpen has the fifth-highest ERA in the MLB, and the third-highest in the AL. The Twins also added reliever A.J. Minter Friday in a trade with the New York Mets.
The Twins are back in action Tuesday on the road against the Kansas City Royals.
