Some Spokane residents returned to their neighborhoods to find their homes in ruins or covered in ash after the fires.
SPOKANE, Wash. — Families are returning to devastation after evacuating from their homes due to the fires in the Spokane, Washington, area.
One family of five returned to where their home once stood near Euclid Road and found nothing but melted children's toys and ash in their lot.
"This is the first time they've been here... the first thing (my son) said was, he didn't see the house, and he was like, 'Where's the house?' so that was sad to hear," said Teairra Atwood, who returned to her burned home with her two young boys.
