Some educators warn of a drop in state assessment scores this year, and they’re pointing to Operation Metro Surge as the culprit.
“For my students in January, there was a noticeable difference. In January, there was a quiet,” said Stacy Bartlett, a veteran teacher from Stillwater who helps write the MCA on biology, her specialty. “It’s hard to describe, but they were quiet, and I knew that it was bothering them, and I knew they didn’t have the words to talk about it, and so I would say every single student was affected in one way or another.”
Teachers like Bartlett say ICE activity and all the upheaval during Metro Surge impacted both attendance and students’ ability to concentrate on the tests themselves.
