Just weeks before the release of her final memoir, Gloria Steinem, one of the most recognizable symbols of second-wave feminism, died in her New York City home on Sept. 2. She was 92. 

It would be understandable, given the sheer volume of recent Steinem tributes from around the world, to forget – or never even know – about her enormous role in shaping Minnesota’s political landscape.
