A jury decided in 1996 that Pike should be executed for the murder of Colleen Slemmer.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee declined Monday to spare death row inmate Christa Pike's life, turning down her final-hours bid for clemency.
Pike, 50, the only woman on the state's death row, is set to be executed by lethal injection Wednesday morning at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. She's to be moved there by Tuesday morning from a women's prison not far away in Nashville.
Pike's legal team hoped Lee would show mercy. Lee, as he has throughout his two terms with other such cases, said instead he thought the execution should go forward.
