SWAT team at St. Joseph home after suspected axe assault during home invasion

A SWAT team has been at a St. Joseph home for the past several hours in hopes of arresting a man who investigators say forced his way into a home with an axe and assaulted someone on Wednesday.

The Stearns-Benton Swat Team arrived at the 400 block of 1st Avenue NE on Thursday morning and people are being asked to avoid the area.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says that the suspect also threatened SWAT officers when they tried contacting him inside the home.

This is a developing situation. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reached out to the sheriff’s office for more details.
