St. Paul residents and business owners protested Friday against plans for a new Metro Transit bus station in the Saint Anthony Park neighborhood, saying its location could hurt small businesses and change the character of the area.
The proposed station at Como and Doswell avenues is part of Metro Transit’s H Line, a bus rapid transit route that will run along Como Avenue through the neighborhood.
While bus stops already exist in the area, the planned H Line stations will be larger, with features including real-time arrival displays, ticket machines and additional space for passengers.
Protesters say the size and location of the proposed station could create parking problems and make it more difficult for customers to visit nearby businesses. They worry those changes could mean fewer customers and lost revenue for small businesses that depend on people visiting the neighborhood.
