St. Paul closes one homeless camp, sparking rapid growth at another

People displaced from St. Paul’s Pig’s Eye Park encampment have now moved to another camp several miles down the Mississippi River.

Residents and volunteers had warned the city that the closure would move people elsewhere. The city said it is aware of that concern and said that is why it offered shelter and resources.

The Randolph camp, which volunteers have described as St. Paul’s fastest-growing camp in the last 24 hours, is accessible by trails and spans back into the woods and down to the river beyond the railroad tracks.
