CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A squirrel caused a power outage affecting thousands of customers in Colorado this week after getting into a utility substation, according to officials.

The town of Castle Rock said on social media that a squirrel exploded at a CORE Electric Cooperative substation off Ridge Road, knocking out power for about 4,400 members in the area.

Castle Rock resident Clair Whitehead heard the initial report over the scanner.
