People from across the country and around the world travel to visit a unique roadside attraction in Kanabec County.
Elmer Laitala created a fire-breathing dragon named Rusty in the front yard at his home in Ogilvie.
“He’s a landmark,” Laitala said. “He’s on Google Maps.”
More than a decade ago, Laitala’s wife asked him to build a dragon. The retired machinist built a dragon that has 4,000 pieces of metal and stands 10 feet tall.
“He weighs about 1,700 or 1,800 pounds, almost a ton,” Laitala said.
Over the years, word got out, and now people from around the country and world come to see Rusty.
“There was somebody here from Germany,” Laitala said. “They stop out here right away I assume they didn’t come to see me. They came to see Rusty.”
