LOS ANGELES — Six Flags Magic Mountain in California is permanently retiring its X2 roller coaster after nearly two decades, following lawsuits from several riders who allege they suffered serious brain injuries on the ride.

Magic Mountain President Brian Oerding announced the decision, saying the amusement park decided to close X2 after concerns affected guests’ confidence in the ride. Six Flags said X2 consistently passed multiple safety tests.

“Ride safety is a cornerstone of our business, and when we see guest confidence affected, we take it seriously,” Oerding said.
