A former Anoka County assistant attorney charged in a sex trafficking case was working for the county during the years the alleged operation was going on, Hennepin County prosecutors confirmed on Monday.

Andrea Sampson, 35, faced a judge Monday afternoon on 26 charges in Hennepin County, including multiple counts of promoting and receiving profits from prostitution. She is one of four people charged in what prosecutors in this case described as a sprawling operation.

The Anoka County Attorney’s Office said once it learned of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) investigation, it placed Sampson on administrative leave and terminated her access to the office. The office said in an earlier press release that she was assigned to its family law and civil divisions.
