A 50-state tour by U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon stopped in Minnesota on Wednesday, where she visited two community colleges and a charter school.
Members of the media were invited to observe McMahon’s stop at Rochester Community and Technical College.
During that visit, McMahon met with instructors inside a police officer training simulator, an automotive technician lab and other career and technical programs.
“This is really what we need to do in our country because we have such a shortage in our skilled workforce,” McMahon said.
The secretary’s visits are part of what has been branded as the “Returning Education to the States Tour.”
McMahon is following through on a directive from President Donald Trump to reduce the size of the U.S. Department of Education, but some advocates tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the tour is “based on a false premise.”
