What began as a construction class project at Sartell High School has turned into what school officials believe to be first outdoor high school volleyball match ever played in central Minnesota.
Instead of ending with a final a letter grade, the project culminates with a volleyball match on the football field.
A group of construction students, led by teacher Joe Schulte, spent weeks helping transform an ambitious idea into reality: building a full-size volleyball court outdoors.
“I’m a sucker for above and beyond, or over the top,” Schulte said. “This was like, ‘Oh, that sounds like, yeah, we should try and pull that off.'”
The vision started with Sartell head volleyball coach Riley Marod, who had been imagining the possibility of hosting an outdoor match for months.
