Lawmakers held their first town hall Thursday to update people and address concerns about the new Appleton Detention Facility.
The former private prison in the far western Minnesota city was known as the Prairie Correctional Facility until the federal government purchased it from CoreCivic on Aug. 5. The day before that, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced a five-year contract with CoreCivic to house detainees there.
The prison had been closed since 2010 and can house 1,600 people.
