Renters on Nicollet Island organize to buy historic homes

MINNEAPOLIS — When news broke in April that the building his apartment is in on Nicollet Island would be put up for sale, Patrick Scully says there was one emotion he couldn't shake.

"A lot of fear," the 72-year-old artist said. "If we have to leave, where are we going to go? What can we afford?" 

Scully's unit is one of 22 across six buildings on the island owned by the Twin Cities Housing Development Corporation, a nonprofit that provides affordable housing. Those properties are all listed for roughly half a million dollars.
