SAN DIEGO — A rare yellow-bellied sea snake washed ashore in southern California, raising questions about whether the highly venomous snakes could also turn up farther north in San Diego.
The snake was spotted in Orange County last week, marking the first reported sea snake sighting in southern California since 2018, according to local snake expert Bruce Ireland.
There have been no recent sightings of a yellow-bellied sea snake in San Diego, but Ireland said warmer ocean conditions could increase the chances of one appearing there.
