Rain focuses on Southern Minnesota early this week

The jet stream has positioned over the northern U.S. over the last few days in a stable west-to-east flow. This is keeping our temperatures around what we would expect for early August, around the low 80s. Without any major troughs or ridges in the pattern, we aren’t seeing any extreme temperature swings in for at least the next week.

What it is also bringing is increased storm chances. With the current setup, we could see storms beginning in the late afternoon and evenings across South Dakota. By evening, storms progress eastwards with help from the jet stream, advancing along the I-90 corridor. Storms push through Minnesota through the overnight hours through daybreak.

This looks to be the setup going into Monday night, and we could wake up to a bit of rain for the Tuesday morning commute. There is a narrow chance for one or two of these storms to be severe early on, but by daybreak that threat lessens. Tuesday night into Wedne...
