Progressives win big in Minnesota DFL primaries for Senate and U.S. House

Peggy Flanagan and Matt Little scored more victories for progressives in their Democratic primaries on Tuesday night, keeping with national trends.

MINNEAPOLIS — Within an hour of polls closing Tuesday evening in Minnesota's primary election, the early results already suggested a blowout victory for Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan in the DFL race for U.S. Senate.

First, a large batch of votes dropped from Anoka County, a suburban and rural district north of the Twin Cities. Flanagan won that county by 17 points over Congresswoman Angie Craig. Then, in Dakota County -- Craig's own Congressional District -- the two candidates were essentially deadlocked, a sign that Craig was struggling to generate voter enthusiasm even on her own home turf.
