Persistent heat dome grips the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast while most of the US sees above-average high temps

The definition of a heat dome is pretty simple: a large area of high pressure that brings persistent heat for a prolonged period of time.

This can sometimes mean record high temperatures, but not always. 

But it can mean other records are broken, like days in September above 100 degrees. That’s happening in Dallas, Texas, right now.

Pete Delkus, Chief Meteorologist at WFAA in Dallas-Fort Worth, shared that September 15th marked the 14th day in September with a high temperature above 100 degrees.
