For more than 90 games that have stretched from opening night in October through the second round of the NBA playoffs here in mid-May, the 2023-24 Minnesota Timberwolves have relied and thrived with their two calling cards: A suffocating defense led by the dogged resistance of Rudy Gobert and an offense powered by the incandescent exploits of Anthony Edwards.

On Tuesday night, the Denver Nuggets diminished both Gobert and Ant in rude and rugged fashion, steamrolling to a 112-97 triumph that capped the Wolves’ first three-game losing streak of the season and put them on the brink of elimination after Minnesota had taken the first two contests in this best-of-seven series.
