Northern Minnesota home destroyed by fire after possible lightning strike

A northern Minnesota home was destroyed by a fire that investigators say might’ve started from a lightning strike early on Tuesday morning.

Several fire departments responded to reports of a home fully engulfed in flames on the Whiteface Reservoir at about 2:42 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing a “very loud boom.”

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, two people and two dogs were able make it out safely before the flames spread to the entire home.

One of the residents was checked out by medical personal but they were ultimately OK.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office will continue investigating what caused the fire.
