North Carolina college student remembered as hero after drowning while saving his sister

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina college senior is being remembered as a hero after he drowned Saturday while trying to save his sister at Lake Norman.

Dorian Jackson, 21, was a Greensboro native and 2023 graduate of Dudley High School. Wildlife officials and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University staff say Jackson drowned after his sister's kayak capsized on the lake. His body was recovered around 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.

According to initial reports, Jackson's sister was struggling in the water after her kayak capsized. Jackson tried to pull her onto his kayak, officials said.
