Houston, Texas artist Ashley Fernandes spent two weeks and 19 bags of chips bringing his idea to life.
HOUSTON — It took 19 bags of Doritos, two weeks of work and a lot of searching for the perfect triangle, but Houston, Texas-based artist Ashley Fernandes managed to turn a pile of chips into the Statue of Liberty.
From fruit to Doritos, Fernandes turns everyday food into art. This time, he was competing for a potentially life-changing prize. Doritos launched its “Build the Bold” contest ahead of America’s 250th anniversary, challenging people to recreate famous U.S. landmarks out of its chips for a chance at $250,000.
Fernandes decided on the Statue of Liberty.
