Mother says her son was killed in St. Paul while trying to help a woman during an assault

Malinda Aguilar said her son, 22‑year‑old Cion Jordan of Maplewood, died after trying to help a woman who was being assaulted in downtown St. Paul.

St. Paul Police said that on July 30, two men were shot and one died, following an incident near Seventh Street East and Wacouta Street.

Aguilar said her son received two calls from people he knew, and the second call convinced him to leave home.

“Of all the details of what happened, the main thing, the common denominator, was a girl got beat up. My son came to either help or assist her, or she called for help,” she said.

She said the woman was being assaulted by a man she was dating, and said Jordan would not have knowingly walked into a violent situation.
