Mother charged after unlicensed 15-year-old kills pedestrian, injures another in Rockford

A Cologne mother is facing criminal charges for letting her 15-year-old daughter drive before a crash in Rockford that killed a woman and badly hurt her wife.

According to the criminal complaint, Charlotte Free Breton faces two felony counts tied to a May 3 crash near Ash Street in Rockford. Prosecutors say she let her daughter, who had no permit or license, drive for the first time before the van struck two women walking on a sidewalk and crashed into a house.
