Moriarty urges Texas governor to sign off on ICE agent’s extradition to Minnesota

More than two months after his arrest in Texas, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer charged with shooting a man in Minneapolis has yet to be extradited to Minnesota.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, whose office brought felony assault charges against ICE agent Christian Castro, sent a letter to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott last week urging him to sign the paperwork necessary for Castro’s case to proceed.

Castro, 52, is accused of shooting Julio Sosa-Celis the night of Jan. 14. According to charging documents, Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan national, fled from a traffic stop by federal agents and retreated to his home in north Minneapolis, where he was shot in the leg.
