Minnesota’s Weather Authority ALERT: Heavy rain moves in overnight

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has issued a Weather Alert for Friday as widespread heavy rain moves across the area.

HEAVY RAIN: Rain develops Friday and becomes widespread through the day. The metro is expected to pick up around 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, with locally higher totals possible south of the Twin Cities.

With several rounds of rain already falling this week, additional heavy rainfall could lead to ponding on roads, high runoff, and localized flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas.

FRIDAY MORNING: Expect a wet commute with periods of steady rain. Allow extra travel time and watch for standing water, especially during heavier downpours.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Rain continues through much of the day. Outdoor activities, practices, and events will likely be impacted, with temperatures struggling to get out of the low 60s.
