This April, state Rep. Peggy Scott, R-Andover, brought a bill to the Minnesota House floor that would forbid students who have transitioned from male to female from playing girls interscholastic sports.
“This is for my granddaughter,” Scott said with a smile. “She’s only 15 months old, but I know she’s going to be a stellar athlete one day.”
That Scott named her one-year-old granddaughter instead of a current female athlete injured, cut or denied a scholarship on account of a trans athlete could be because there are few examples of those types of incidents transpiring.
A Texas nonprofit called Female Athletes United filed a lawsuit last year about a trans girl who played girls softball for Champlin Park High School in 2024 and 2025.
But that is the only case in Minnesota federal or state court that alleged a trans athlete’s participation in girls sports harmed someone born female. E...
