Minneapolis still short on cops as judge sets jury trial for staffing lawsuit

A Hennepin County judge has ordered a jury trial in a lawsuit trying to force Minneapolis to meet a minimum staffing level.

The case centers on whether Minneapolis must meet certain requirements outlined in the city charter.

The lawsuit, filed by the Upper Midwest Law Center, is asking the courts to enforce a 2022 Minnesota Supreme Court ruling that found Minneapolis to be deficient in meeting its hiring goal.
