MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Minneapolis police are working to determine whether there is any connection between at least 87 car break-ins that happened across the city Friday morning.
Broken glass across the city
Shattered windows were left behind in nine different parts of Minneapolis, with 37 vehicles damaged on just one block of 1st Avenue South.
What we know:
Ivan Koh was one of the 87 victims police say were affected. He says he discovered the damage when he was heading out to run an errand.
"I was really just going down the stairs to go to the hardware store and I checked my window, and yeah, it was broken into," said Koh. "I saw maybe seven or eight other cars that had their windows broken into as well."
Koh took photos of the aftermath — glass scattered across his seat and floor. What made it worse was that this was not his first time. His car was also broken into on Aug. 1, less than three weeks before Friday's break-in.
A costly repeat
The first time, Koh said whoever broke in took about $20 from his center console. The second time, nothing was taken.
When FOX 9's cameras were there, Koh's window was being replaced — but the repeated cost is adding up fast.
"Starting my internship in September, so right now I kind of don't have a lot of income, so window repairs are kind of draining my savings right now," said Koh.
What they're saying:
Koh has only lived in Minnesota for about a month, and the experience has left him second-guessing his move.
"I'm starting to regret moving here a little bit, just because all these unfortunate circumstances hit my car recently," said Koh.
Police have not made any arrests and are still working to determine whether the break-ins across the nine neighborhoods are connected. Anyone with surveillance video or other footage is asked to contact Minneapolis police.
