Man sentenced to 2 decades in prison for role in deadly Minneapolis shooting in 2025

A Columbia Heights man will spend 20 years in prison for his role in a deadly shooting in Minneapolis in 2025.

Raphael Joseph Rodriguez, 37, was convicted on one count of aiding an offender after the fact and one count of aiding an offender to avoid arrest following a joint trial with the other two defendants, Jose Vazquez-Rodriguez and Victor Vasquez-Rodriguez. Raphael Rodriguez was acquitted on a second-degree aiding and abetting murder charge.

The three defendants are accused of shooting and killing 34-year-old Tiago Antonio Gilbert on April 30, 2025, outside the Red Lake Nation Embassy and Mino-Bimaadiziwin Apartments and Wellness Clinic, near the intersection of Cedar and 17th Avenues.
