Man charged with tossing Lime scooters off Wabasha Street bridge

St. Paul police are looking into whether a man who was allegedly caught on camera throwing two Lime scooters off the Wabasha Street bridge is connected to a greater trend of missing scooters.

At least 100 scooters have been reported missing since early September, according to St. Paul Police Sgt. Alyssa Arcand, and many of the disappearances seem to be concentrated around the downtown bridge.

A criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County charges David John Kugler, 39, with one count of first-degree damage to property after investigators say surveillance cameras captured him on Thursday hurling the scooters off the west side of the Wabasha Street bridge and into the Mississippi River below.

As of now, Kugler is only charged with vandalizing two scooters, each at a cost of $1,365, and police are still investigating whether he is connected to other missing scooters.
