Kyler Murray named Vikings starting QB over J.J. McCarthy

Kyler Murray has been named the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings to begin the regular season after a training camp battle this summer with former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, according to team officials.

Murray, who was brought in during free agency on a one-year $1.3 million veteran minimum contract, will now get his chance at new life in the NFL after a disappointing seven years with the Arizona Cardinals.

Since being brought in, Murray was considered the number one option for the Vikings but the team didn’t make it official until now.

The big question still remains: What to do with McCarthy?

The 23-year-old is now in his second year of a four-year, $21 million fully guaranteed rookie contract which includes a $12.71 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.
