Mendota Heights says its new speed camera is already slowing drivers on a road with a long history of speeding complaints.
Mendota Heights became the first city in Minnesota to install a speed camera, targeting Delaware Avenue. After more than a month of monitoring, police said the typical high-end speed is about 37 mph, but many are well above that.
“We have people coming through at 58, 57 mph pretty regularly in a 30 mph zone,” Mendota Heights Police Chief Kelly McCarthy said.
Police also said 340 drivers were clocked above 46 mph. McCarthy said drivers get three chances before they have to pay a fine.
