I’ve been teaching full time in higher education for more than 25 years. I’ve taught at several colleges and universities in four states. And during that time, I’ve never once heard anyone on campus say, “Can we afford that new technology? Is it necessary?”  

But because both k-12 and higher education have been taken over by contemporary business culture, which revolves around minimizing the cost of labor, our schools and colleges seemingly must always ask whether we can afford every single faculty and staff position.
