Lisa Demuth’s most ardent critics and strident supporters converge on this point: No one pegged her to one day lead House Republicans and, from there, arguably become the most consequential figure in the Minnesota Republican Party. 

“She was more of an unknown,” said state Rep. Danny Nadeau, R-Rogers.

“It was a surprise,” state Rep. Marion Rarick, R-Maple Lake, said of her rise to lead the House GOP caucus in 2022. “I didn’t serve on committees with her, and didn’t really know her. But she was willing to lead.”
