What to know about filling out a ballot in Minnesota's primary and general elections.

ST PAUL, Minn. — If this election is your first time voting in Minnesota, there are a few things to know before heading to the polls.

In most cases in Minnesota, voters will receive a paper ballot to vote in secret. Voters use a pen with blue or black ink to completely fill in an oval next to a candidate's name, or a team of two candidates in the case of a presidential or gubernatorial race.

Be sure to read the headings in each section on your ballot, as some races, like some city or school board elections, allow voters to cast a vote for more than one candidate to fill multiple seats.
