Health warning at Cedar Lake beaches for blue-green algae

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board says there is a hazardous algae warning at all three beaches at Cedar Lake.

It’s the highest risk warning for blue-green algae. The warning is based on water samples taken Monday, which were higher than the standard to close the beach at the south beach, but below the standard at the two other beaches.

MPRB decided to close all three beaches anyway because the algae bloom will likely move around the beach due to weather and wind, they said.

Conditions are currently ideal for blue-green algae, which include sunny skies and temperatures higher than 75 degrees.

Neither people nor pets should make contact with water or ingest water with blue-green algae.
