'Golden Girls' purse used by Estelle Getty sells for nearly $200,000 at auction

It is now the most expensive "Golden Girls" prop ever sold by Julien's Auctions, beating White's on-set director's chair.

WASHINGTON — A handbag used by Estelle Getty in "Golden Girls" sold for $192,000, nearly 13 times its high estimate, the auction house said Friday.

The straw handbag, carried by Getty in her role as Sophia Petrillo, sold at an auction this week. Getty personally found and picked-out the purse while developing the character of Sophia and carried it throughout all seven seasons of the show.
