A Georgia woman is suing Kaiser Permanente Southwood Medical Center for negligence after an alleged lab mix-up led to a cancer misdiagnosis and hysterectomy.
ATLANTA — A Georgia woman said she underwent a life-changing hysterectomy and spent months believing she was dying of aggressive cancer before learning the diagnosis was a mistake.
According to a lawsuit, Cassandra Barksdale was wrongly diagnosed with endometrial uterine cancer after her pathology results were allegedly mixed up with another patient's. The lawsuit claims the error led to an unnecessary surgery that removed her uterus, cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes and four lymph nodes, and left her believing she had only a few years to live.
Barksdale said the emotional toll was overwhelming.
