A Grand Rapids woman was sentenced Monday after leaving the scene when hitting and killing an Itasca County man two years ago.
According to court documents, 66-year-old Cynthia Martin was sentenced for felony criminal vehicular homicide in the July 3, 2024, crash that killed 19-year-old Carter Haithcock. In a plea deal, Martin will spend 364 days in jail and serve five years of supervised probation.

Martin, who was a former DFL chair with the 8th Congressional District, must also return to the Itasca County jail every July 3 during her probationary period and remain in custody until July 5. Martin also has to complete 100 hours of community service.<...
