Recent data from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) shows the U.S. is home to 33.2 million small businesses, making up 99.9% of all businesses across the country.
Defined as having fewer than 500 employees, small businesses have a big impact on local economies. From 1995 to 2021, they were the source of more than 60% of newly created jobs, represented 97.3% of all exporters and made up nearly 44% of the nation’s gross domestic product.
