Rhossi was found cold-stunned on a Welsh beach in 2023. Now, the endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle is being treated before a hoped-for return to the Gulf.
HOUSTON — Rhossi has taken quite the detour on his way home.
The endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle somehow ended up about 5,000 miles from his native Gulf of Mexico. The turtle was discovered by a dog on a beach in Wales and spent two years recovering in Britain.
After a helicopter ride and transatlantic flight, Rhossi made it to Houston, Texas, but his journey isn't over.
The Houston Zoo said Rhossi arrived in Texas on Aug. 10 and is now receiving care from its veterinary team as they work toward eventually returning him to the wild.
