Death of Hennepin County Jail inmate under investigation

A 21-year-old man in-custody at the Hennepin County Jail suffered a "medical incident" and died Monday, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

In a news release, the agency said the incident happened in the jail's medical room while the man was being attended by nursing staff. 

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, medical aid was immediately rendered and life-saving measures were continued as the man was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. 

“I was saddened to hear of the death of an individual in our custody today, and my thoughts are with that person’s family and friends,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt. "While events like this are difficult to process, I am thankful for the actions of my staff and those of our partners, all of whom acted compassionately and decisively in their effort to administer life-saving measures.”
