Dakota County commissioners vote to raise the maximum tax levy to 18.5%

DAKOTA COUNTY, Minn. — The Dakota County Board of Commissioners set its maximum property tax levy increase at 18.5%, up significantly from the 9.9% increases approved for both 2025 and 2026.

District 6 Commissioner Mary Liz Holberg was one of two commissioners who voted against the levy increase.

“There’s a lot of people hurting out there, particularly people that are surviving on fixed incomes, whether it’s Social Security or disability,” Holberg said. “This is a really big ask. I think it’s too big.”
