A suspect has been charged in connection with the destruction of an automated license plate reading camera.
Bradley Smith, 18, is facing a felony damage to property charge after he allegedly admitted to investigators that he had cut down the camera in St. Cloud in June.
According to charging documents, St. Cloud police were called to First Street North and Fifth Avenue North on June 24, where a license plate reading camera had been cut down. Police said whatever had cut down the camera appeared to be red, as multiple red marks were found on the device’s parts and the pole.
Surveillance video reportedly showed a person, who investigators say is Smith, purchasing a six-inch red reciprocating saw blade at a Runnings, a farm and outdoor store on June 24 around 12:16 p.m.
Smith allegedly used his own debit card to purchase the saw and then left in his vehicle.
